Learning Music
Learning music is a wonderful experience. Yes, it can be a ton of work. A student can learn how to play an easy song very quickly but can spend a lifetime trying to “master” their instrument. One of the many great things about learning music is that the process never ends. Even the most accomplished musicians will say they are always trying to learn something new. Therefore, learning to play an instrument is a process that never stops.
This may be an intimidating idea. There will be many amazing moments where a student will be excited about how quickly they learned a concept. There will also be moments when they want to give up because something is remarkably challenging. In my opinion, the key to managing both of these feelings is to remember to have fun no matter the situation. Music is meant to bring out a range of emotions from happy, sad, hopeful, melancholy, and even angry from time to time. The bottom line is that all of these emotions are channeled through a positive act of creating music, expressing yourself in a positive way you couldn’t before, and adding a lifelong hobby/passion/potential career to your skillset. Remembering to have fun and being okay with yourself are the most important parts of the process.
